Can Rabbits Eat Watermelon

Summer will be here before we know it! (I promise ;-)) and what better way to beat the heat than with a juicy slice of watermelon? But can rabbits join in on the fun? The answer is technically, yes, but with moderation.

Watermelon is a great source of hydration, but it is also high in sugar. In some rabbits, this can lead to digestive issues. Therefore, it is important to introduce it slowly and watch how your bunny react.

If your bunny responds well, you can feed them small amounts of watermelon as a special treat. Bunnies might like sweet things but just like humans, they do not NEED lots of sugar, so really once and a while, not every day.

Before feeding your bunny watermelon, make sure to remove the seeds and rind, as they can be harmful to their digestive system.

In conclusion, watermelon can be a fun and hydrating treat for your rabbit, but its kind of like candy. :-) Be sure to feed lots of quality hay and pellets too, so you can help your rabbit stay healthy and happy.
